Introduction

INTRODUCTION (FOP-IC)

Faculty of Pharmacy, Islamabad Campus (FoP-IC), Former name Hamdard Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (HIPS), is the pioneer institute at Islamabad, led cornerstone in the field of Pharmacy, started Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) in 2000, Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) in 2004 and M.Phil., program in Pharmacy Practice in 2014. Since its inception, more than 1600 pharmacists have produced and they are serving in different national and international organizations around the globe including, pharmaceutical industry, sale, marketing, regulatory, community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, DRAP and academia etc. FoP-IC is committed to produce highly skilled pharmacists through excellence in educating, developing, and training in the healthcare system.

Academic Rules

Examination

In each semester, students may be required to appear in quizzes, mid terms, final examination, give presentation, participate in group discussion, and submit projects/assignments/lab reports. These (to be determined by the teacher concerned) will have different weightage contributing towards the overall assessment in percent marks. This weightage can be determined, based on the following guidelines:

A makeup test will be conducted in the afternoon of the final examination for students.

  • Who have missed midterm examination.
  • Who has obtained less than 50% marks during semester.
  • There will be no Supplementary/ Special Examination in a Semester System; if a student fails in a course, he/s is required to repeat it.
 

Grading Policy

Terminal Examination

The examination held at the end of semester after the completion of a course shall be known as Terminal Examination. It will carry 100 marks. This examination is a passing head i.e., a student must for each course obtain a minimum of 50 marks in this examination.

 

Grading System

Grades given to a student in each course shall be of two types:

  1. Numerical Grade (NG)

Assessment of performance on the basis of marks out of 100 fixed for a course of 3 or 4 credit hours unit is NG.

  1. Alphabetical Grade (AG)

Equivalence of numerical grades in terms of alphabets shall be termed as alphabetical grades. (Each letter carries a value in terms of numerical points)

For incomplete courses no point shall be given.

 

Grade Point Ratio (GPR)

Point obtained in each course shall be multiplied by the number of Credit Hours specified for that course, and then a grade point ration (GPR) shall be calculated. For example, the result of a last year student in a semester may be as follows:

 

Cumulative Grade Point

This is obtained by adding all the Grade Points of the courses during 5 years study period and dividing the totally by the total number of credit hours.

 

Computation of Semester Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

Semester Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPA) will be calculated using the following relationships:
CGPA = Sum of (Credit Hours X GPA)/Total Credit Hours

 

CGPA Required for Degree Completion (Pharm.D / M.Phil)

For graduation, the minimum qualifying CGPAs for Pharm. D. and M. Phil. Students are 2.45.

 

Paper Viewing

Proper Paper Viewing has to be made mandatory before final submission of result to the controller of examination and its approval by the Faculty Board of Studies.
This would help in avoiding student’s grievances, biasness and calculation errors etc in the papers.

 

Requirement for the Award of Pharm.D Degree

For Pharm.D Students
  1. A student must have passed all prescribed courses.
  2. A student must have obtained a minimum CGPR 2.45.
For M.Phil Students
  1. A student must have a regular admission in the M. Phil program of the Institute, and should earn a minimum of 30 credit hours from the institute from where he/ she will be entitled for the degree. (24 credit hours of course work and 6 credit hours of research) .6 credit hours of research is mandatory for M. Phil level.
  2. A student must have obtained a minimum CGPR 2.5.
